· What is DNS?
The Domain Name System is the system that translates Internet domain names into IP numbers. A "DNS Server" is a server that performs this kind of translation e.g. http://www.biotecheast.com/ into their correct TCP/IP addresses, e.g. 216.104.179.145
CLARIFICATION: Basically it is a system set up so that we humans only have to remember something like http://www.biotecheast.com instead of an IP eg. 216.104.179.145. It is also thanks to this DNS system that we can all get our emails.

· What is a domain name? (web site name)
A domain name is the text name corresponding to the numeric IP address of a computer on the Internet. A domain name must be unique. Internet users access your website using your domain name.
CLARIFICATION: Basically a domain name is the name / address of your website e.g. www.askmorris.org The truth is that only askmorris.org is the domain name, the 'www' part is not necessary but it has become a standard so most people use it but in fact, provided your DNS server has been set up correctly askmorris.org should work just as well as www.askmorris.org

· So what domain name (web site name) should I choose for my web site?
This is a great question and the answer is, try to get something descriptive. AVOID choosing a domain name that is just an acronym like 'www.sprdx5.com'. You want to avoid this kind of domain name mainly because;
- it doesn't make sense
- it is hard to remember
- it is bad for SEO
Instead you want to choose something like 'www.goodtravel.com'. Very short and descriptive. If you have difficultes in thinking of a domain name, use our 'excellent tool for Checking Available Web Site Names'. It can be found here However, there is one exception to the rule and that is when, in your language, you can make a 'play with words' like the chinese' www.5888money.com' or 'www.3qman.com' etc. However, please be advise that the name is still bad for SEO Top

· So can I have my domain name forever?
CLARIFICATION: Sure you can. Just remember to renew it at the place wher you bought it. yes, that is right, domain names 'expire' so it is important you keep paying. Otherwise, not only will you loose your domain name but because of this, you will also loose your web site!!! Domain names are usually bought on a yearly basis but we recommend you pay upfront for at least 2 years. That way you can relax and not worry too much.

· So is the domain name for my web site the same as for my email?
Yes and no. It is the same because if your website is 'cool.com' your email is probably 'service@cool.com' however when you set up your DNS you have to setit up for websites and email separately. For web sites the setting is called 'cname' or A-record but for email what you set up is an mx record.
CLARIFICATION: It's kind of complicated. Just remember the following; your email can be hosted in a different place from your web site. This means that your web site can be down but your email will still be working and vice versa. It also improves your security and the speed of your web site (due to less stress to the server)
