Taipei's Mayor Ma Ying-jeou shakes hands with Francis Morris, CEO of AskMorris.org, at the conclusion of a recent speech before the European Chamber of Commerce (ECCT) on April 28, 2006
In his speech, Mayor Ma talked about the challenges facing Taiwan in the near future, focusing primarily on regional development in areas such as free trade agreements and bilateral trade. The title of his speech was “Embracing Challenges Ahead – Mayor Ma ’s Vision for Taipei and Taiwan.”
Taipei city government is striving to enlarge Taipei's broadband and wireless mobile information infrastructure to enable Taipei residents to gain access to all the information they need. The fact that Taipei will be a truly wireless city before the end of 2005 is of major significance. As an IT capital, Taipei needs a wireless network to help maintain its reputation as one of the world's most connected cities.
During the Q&A session, Mayor Ma replied to questions about ‘WiFly’ (Taipei’s Wireless LAN). He noted that in addition to Taipei’s system, the central government is currently working on a project to construct a ubiquitous network and provide e-services across the island. Francis Morris asked many related Internet questions and Mayor Ma gave very well formulated answers.
Ma promised that Taipei would share its experience with other cities and counties around the world. All in all it was a great event with an impressive speaker.
